Description
If you want to get language learners talking, barrier games (or information gap activities as they are sometimes called) are brilliant for encouraging this.
Our Animals Barrier game has pictures of domesticated animals that most learners should recognise. There are two photos representing each type of animal. This means that learners have to draw on their language reserves to describe the pictures accurately so that their partner knows which picture they are talking about.
If their partner is unsure, they can ask questions to clarify. This process is known as ‘negotiating meaning’ and is a really important part of learning English as an Additional Language.
